Writing a recount

We are learning to write a recount. Room 4 went on a field trip to the Botanical Gardens last week. We wrote about where we went, what we did, who we went with and when we went. After we wrote our stories, we published them using a Kidpix to make a picture which matches our story. It is tricky remembering everything to put in our story sometimes. We are proud of our publishing.

"I went to Botanical Gardens. I made compost. It smelled. My mummy helped. I made different compost. I got to touch the worms. They feel funny because they are slimy. By Karsin."

Making pizza

Yummy! We made pizzas to celebrate the end of our inquiry on wellbeing. We were learning about compost and how we can use it in our garden to grow some healthy vegetables. We then used these vegetables to add flavour to our pizzas. 

I Am Learning To Add Details To My Writing

I am learning to add details to my writing.  

I can write when something happened.

"I like to write.  I can use the yellow card to help me.  I can sound out the words.  When it get's tricky I can ask my teacher to help me."

I Am Learning To Tell The Time

We have made clocks at school. 

We are learning to tell o'clock and half past times using our clocks.

"I come inside after play at 2 o'clock."

Our Big Book Activity - The Snake Cake

We have been reading the big book 'The Snake Cake' and decided that we would make a snake cake  too.  We spread pink icing on the biscuits and stuck them together so they looked liked a snake.  

Then we put some blue icing on the top and M & M's too.  

Then we ate it.  It was delicious!

My Art Exhibition Masterpiece

This term we painted pictures for the 

Elm Park School Art Exhibition 2015.

The focus of our artwork was experimenting with different painting techniques, blending and shading colours together and creating repeating patterns.

To create our 'flower masterpiece' we practised mixing different shades of the same colour to create the wavy lines.  Then we used black vivid to create a repeating pattern.  We had fun putting our pictures together to create a whole flower - this was the best part!

Reading Term 3

I am learning to find the different marks (punctuation marks) in the book

·      fullstops

·      question marks

·      comma

·      exclamation mark

"Sometimes it’s tricky to remember the name of the ‘exclamation mark’.  I can find all these things in my books.  Sometimes I can’t find all of them.  I am learning what the different marks mean now."

Writing Term 3

Writing Progressions 1P:
I am learning to

• add some detail to my writing
• choose words to make my writing more interesting

We wrote about about a Kapa Haka Performance that we watched in the auditorium during Māori Language Week.  First we wrote 2 sentences and then the next day we added some more writing to make our stories more interesting.

"I liked watching the performance in the auditorium.  I liked it when the man banged the drum.  I liked writing about it.  It's tricky to write hard words in the sentences but I try hard."

I am learning to recognise patterns to 10.

100 Days Smarter!

On the 23rd July 2015 Room 5 celebrated 100 days of school.  

We had a small class celebration, made crowns and wrote about our favourite things to do at school.

We are now 100 days smarter!!!

ANZAC Day Baking 2015

We baked ANZAC Biscuits.

They were yummy and chewy.  They smelled delicious.

They tasted sweet.  We like ANZAC biscuits.

Writing Term 1

I am learning to use a simple plan for my writing.

I can draw a picture about my story to help me when I am writing.

"I liked writing today.  I can write about myself.  Sometimes it's tricky to draw the pictures.  Sometimes it's easy."  Karsin

Reading Term 1

I am learning to make the first sound in new words.

  I can look at the first letter and make the sound.  I can look at the picture to help me too.

" Sometimes I listen to my friends read to help me if I get stuck.  Mrs Koroa can help me too when I get stuck.  I will practise my letters at home too." Karsin

Maths Term 1

I am learning to read and write all the numbers from 0 to 10.

" It is tricky writing my numbers because sometimes I write them the wrong way.  My friends can help me or Mrs Koroa.  I can write my numbers now but I need to think carefully about writing the numbers 6 and 7 so they are the right way. I liked writing on the whiteboard. " Karsin

Term 1 Water Safety

We have been learning to be safe in the water.

"My favourite part is monkey-walking around the outside of the pool.  I really, really like it.  We have to try and catch the girls.  Sometimes we do too!"  Karsin

Butterfly Art

We used Kid Pix to create our backgrounds.  

We used black marker pen and dye to colour in our butterflies.

"It was tricky colouring in my butterfly.  It took a long time.  I like my butterfly." Karsin
